Biography of St. Bartholomew:
There is not much certainty about the life of St. Bartholomew, one of the 12 apostles of Jesus. His name real name was Nathanael, whereas his patronymic means "son of Tolomai". The apostle Philip introduced him to Jesus Christ. Bartholomew is believed to have preached in India and Armania after the Ressurrection, where he was flayed and beheaded by pagans. The first pilgrimages in his honor took place in the Fifteenth Century.
Patronage: He is the patron saint of Armenia, the bookbinders, butchers, Florentine cheese and salt merchands. He is also patron saint of the leather
workers, Italy, neurological diseases, shoemakers, Malta and the curriers.
