Biography of St. Bernard of Thiron:
Bernard was born in 1047 near Abbeville and lived there for 12 years, before moving to Aquitaine. He entered the monastery of Saint Cyprien and was eventually made abbot of Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe. After a conflict with monks of Cluny Order, he resigned and began his life as a hermit. Together with some followers, he travelled to Rome. 1109 he founded a benedictine congregation in the woods of Thiron, which soon became very famous.
