When did St. Edmund of East Anglia live: in the ninth century
Biography of St. Edmund:
Edmund was made King of East Anglia in 855. His reign was peaceful: he led his country to the ideals of Christianity. In 870. he was captured by pagan Danes as they raided his country. They forced him to give up his faith. Because he refused to do so, he was then tortured and finally beheaded. His relics are in the Abbey of St. Edmund's castle east of Portsmouth.
