Biography of St. Maurus:
Maurus was born in 510 as the son of a Roman noble. Already at the young age of twelve, he became assistant of St. Benedict of Nursia and most probably succeeded him as abbot of Subiaco Abbey in 525 when Benedict moved to Montecassino. According to Gregory the Great, he saved Placidus from drowning and had extraordinary healing powers. It is believed that Maurus died of plague in Gaul.
