Biography:
Pope Pius V was born in 1504 to a poor family and worked as a shepherd until when he jounend the Dominicans at the age of fourteen. He was ordained priest in 1528 and then studied at Bologna and Genoa. Sixteen years long, he taught theology and philosophy. Pius became the inquisitor for Como and Bergamo and was later made commissary general of the Inquisition and cardinal. In 1566 he succeeded Pius IV as Pope and became famous for the standardization of the Church and his role in the Counter- Reformation. Pius V died in 1572.
