Saint Francis Statue Models
This is truly an amazing piece of wood carved art. The follow-through in detail is amazing. This sculpture depicts Saint Francis comforting a group of birds. A very beautiful figurine. Sizes less than 22" are carved in Mountain Maple Wood, 22" and up in Linden Wood, holy wood (lt. sacrum lignum).It is hard to believe this is carved wood.
Saint Francis is usually depicted with birds, deer, fish or wolf.
Patron Saint of animals, Assisi Italy, birds, Colorado, dying alone, ecologists and environmentalists, families, merchants, and peace.
Feast Day: October 4th
Saint Francis was the Founder of the Franciscan Order. Born at Assisi in Umbria, in 1181. He called for simplicity of life, poverty, and humility before God. He worked to care for the poor and one of his first actions after his conversion was to care for lepers. Thousands were drawn to his sincerity, piety, and joy. In all his actions, Francis sought to follow fully and literally the way of life demonstrated by Christ in the Gospels.
He died of illness on October 3rd or 4th, 1226 at the age of 45.
