Symbols and Imagery: shown as a monk with books and a cross. Hand carved in Maple wood and hand painted by professional artists. Made in Italy. Born in 1481, Jerome was the son of Angelo Emiliani. Jerome served in the military and was taken prisoner. After this, he made a pilgrimage to the shrine of Our Lady of Treviso. He visited the sick in hospitals while committing much of his time to the study of theology. During the Plague, Jerome took special care of the orphans. He built orphanages and founded a religious society called Somasca. He died of the plague at the age of 57.

Biography of St. Jerome Emiliani:
Jerome was born in 1481 in Venice as the son of Angelo Emiliani. After having fought in the military and being taken prisoner, he made a pilgrimage to the shrine of Our Lady of Treviso. He dedicated most of his time to the study of theology and visited many sick in the hospitals. As the plague and a famine reached Venice, Jerome took special care for the many orphans. He built many orphanages and founded a religious society called Somasca. Jerome Emiliani died of plague at the age of fifty seven.
