Patron Saint of orphans and abandoned children
Born in 1481, Jerome was the son of Angelo Emiliani. Jerome was in the military and was taken prisoner, he then made a pilgrimage to the shrine of Our Lady of Treviso. He visited many sick in the hospitals, while also committing a lot of his time to the study of theology. During the Plague, Jerome took special care of the orphans. He built orphanages and founded a religious society called Somasca. He eventually died of the plague at the age of 57.
