When did St. Odilia live: in the seventh and eighth century
Biography of St. Odilia:
Odilia was the daughter of a noble family of Alsace. Unfortunately, she was born blind. Due to this handicap and because she was a girl, her father did not want her, so her mother sent her to a town in Burgundy where she was raised by farmers and then moved into a monastery where she was baptized. During this ceremony, she miraculously recovered her sight. She returned home but her brother was accidentally killed by her father who wanted to murder her. When his father was ill though, she took care of him and nursed him. He then finally gave up on trying to murder her and founded the Augustine monastic community. Odilia herself founded a monastery in Nierdermünster. She died in 720.
Patronage: Odilia is patron saint of Alsace, of Arlesheim in Switzerland, the blind, the winemaker, for eye, ear and head sufferings
