When did St. Stephen live: during the first century
Biography:
According to the New Testament and the book Acts of the Apostles, Stephen was made, together with six others, deacon by the apostles of Jesus who needed help to care for the widows and the poor. It is said, that Stephen worked many miracles and that his wisdom and holiness lead many people to Christianity, which angered the enemies of the Church of Jesus. In occasion of a public hearing due to the false accusation of blasphemy, he delivered a long speech about Jesus after which he was stoned to death. Stephen is regarded as the first martyr of Christianity.
Patronage: St. Stephen is patron saint of stonemasons, casket makers, deacons, horses and against headaches. Furthermore, he is patron saint of Cetona in Italy, Kessel in Belgium, Owensboro in Kentucky, Passau in Germany and Prato in Italy.
