Biography of St. Hedwig:
St. Hedwig was born around 1174 in Andechs, Germany, as a daughter of Berthold IV and Agnes of Rochlitz. St. Hedwig was also related to St. Elizabeth of Hungary, she was her aunt. At the age of twelve she moved to Silesia, because she was married to duke Henry I, the head of the Polish Royal family. They had seven children, but one was killed fighting against the Mongols. At the request of Hedwig, the duke Henry founded a convent at Trebnitz, where St. Hedwig lived as a Cistercain after the death of her husband. There she died on the fifteenth of October 1243.
