When husband Constantinus was made Ceaser, he left his wife and married Maximian's stepdaughter. Her son Constantine became emperor in 312 and Helena became empress. She converted to Christianity and put great effort into building churches in Rome and the Holy Land. She is said to have performed many acts of charity as well, before dying in Nicomedia.
