The Mahlknecht nativity and its meticulously carved wooden figures epitomize a collectible crib in Alpine and Tyrolean style. It was originally crafted by the skilled Mahlknecht family in the 1980s and today the tradition of this wonderful nativity scene is carried on by the Pema company, one of Val Gardena's most esteemed manufacturers of nativity scenes. These figures stand out for their evocative expressiveness and refined elegance. Adding this authentic South Tyrolean woodcarving masterpiece to your home will undoubtedly embellish it with a treasured collector's item. The Mahlknecht nativity figures can be acquired individually or as a complete set, available in sizes ranging from 8 to 16 cm. Each figure's size is proportioned to that of Saint Joseph. This remarkable nativity scene made in maple wood is offered in its natural finish, as well as adorned with exquisitely hand-painted patinas or oil colors.

The size in inches is the scale of the nativity set based on what the height of an average man would be- with most nativity sets that is Joesph.  So if the nativity set is scaled to 4” for example, everything in that set is scaled to the height of a 4” man.

Because the statues we list are hand made and painted in Italy by Italian artists, we custom import your statue from Italy for you.  We generally have weekly bulk shipments of statue orders being sent from Italy.  Once you order a statue you can generally expect it to arrive in about 3 weeks, allowing for international and domestic shipping times.

For statues 12" or larger, nativity sets over $350, or crosses and crucifixes 18" or larger, drop shipping from Italy is available to get your item quicker, but starts at $35 and goes up from there.  Drop shipping from Italy can get your item to you usually in about 7-10 days.  If you are interested in this option, please email us.
