When did St. John Baptist de La Salle live: 1651- 1719

Biography:
John Baptist de La Salle was born in France as the eldest son of a wealthy family. After his studies in Paris, he was ordained priest in 1678. It is known that he was very popular due to his involvement in education and in taking care of the poor. In fact, he founded the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and is considered the founder of the first Christian School. His schools were soon all over Italy and the method of classroom teaching showed to be a success. Furthermore, he founded a reform school only for boys at Dijon in France. John Baptist died at St. Yon in 1719 and was canonised in 1900 by Pope Leo XIII.
