Symbols and Imagery: shown as a Cistercian abbot with a crook, small church model, and holding a book in his right hand. Hand carved in Maple wood and hand painted by professional artists. Made in Italy. Saint Robert was born in Yorkshire (northern England) and studied in Paris. After graduating he became a secular priest, then a Benedictine-monk, and later joined the Cistercian Order. He became abbot of Newminster, the monastery founded by him, and successfully set up further monasteries in England. It is said that he especially cared for the poor. Saint Robert died after a fulfilling life in 1159. It is rumored  miracles have occurred at his grave.
