Patroness against breast cancer
Represented with a book in her hand

Saint Adelgund is also known as St. Aldegundis. She was born around 633 AD at Hainault in Belgium.  She was the daughter of St. Walbert of Hainault and Saint Bertilia, her sister was Saint Waldetrudis. She went to the convent founded by her sister at Mons and later she decided to live as a hermit at Maubeuge Abbey. There she founded a Benedictine monastery and became its first abbess. She probably died of breast cancer on the 30th of January 684 at Maubeuge Abbey in France.
