When did St. Adelaide live: in the tenth century
Biography of St. Adelaide:
St. Adelaide was born in Burgundy and married Lothair of Italy at the age of 15. Since her husband died only 3 years later, she was imprisoned and almost forced to marry the son of Lothair's successor. She managed to escape to Canossa and begged Otto of Germany for help. Indeed, Otto conquered Italy and married her before they where both crowned rulers of the Holy Roman Empire by Pope John XII. After Ottos death, Adelaide moved back to Burgundy and founded many churches and monasteries. Adelaide died in 999 and was canonized in 1097.
