When did S. Renata of Lorraine live: in the sixteenth century

Biography of S. Renata:
Renata was born to Francis I, Duke of Lorraine in 1544 and married the Crown Prince Wilhelm of Bavaria at the age of 24. Their wedding was a great event: it lasted 18 days and 5,000 riders participated in the celebrations. The everyday life of the two, however, was marked by humility and charity. They lived in a home with the Jesuits in the west of Munich where she cared for the sick, the poor, and pilgrims. The spent the last years of her life in the Herzogsspital ( Hospital of the Duke) of Munich. She was buried in the church St. Michael in Munich in 1602.

Statues and woodcarvings made in Val Gardena representing S. Renata - representation, symbolism and emblem: S. Renata is represented in a gentle robe with a cross as a necklace and a prayer book. She holds a piece of bread in her right hand and there is a crown on her head.
