Patron Saint of bellmakers and nurses and against the outbreak of fire and against the breast diseases
Imagery and Representation: shown carrying her breasts on a plate and a palm symbolizing the martyrdom.
St Agathe was born in Sicily and died there as a martyr. It is said that she belonged to a rich Christian family and denied any man that wanted to marry her. One of the men who wanted to marry her, imprisoned her in a whorehouse in an attempt to get her to change her mind. But, St Agathe never budged and she continued to profess her faith in Jesus.
St. Agathe was imprisoned and tortured, she was hanged head-down and had her breasts cut off. She survived all the tortures but died from destitution in prison.
