Biography of St. Apollonia:
St. Apollonia, a beldam deaconess, died a martyr during a riot against the Christians in 249 a.D.. St. Apollonia was captured, the persecutors hit in her face knocking out her teeth. Threatening with fire they wanted to force her to recite profane clauses, but St. Apollonia jumped into the flames voluntarily.
