Arnold became a priest at the age of 24. He started his career as a teacher until he founded a christian magazine. He particularly strived toward the diffusion of Catholic folk literature. A few years later he founded the Mission House Sankt Michael in Steyl. From there, he founded numerous other mission houses, whose missionaries were sent into the whole world. Next, he founded the Society of the Divine Word Missionaries, called the cloistered nuns. Arnold died on 15 January 1909 and was spoken holy in 2003.
