Berthold of Garsten was a Benedictine monk who was appointed prior at Göttweig Abbey in 1107. Ottokar II of Styria entrusted him with the development of Garsten abbey, of which Berthold himself became abbot in 1111. Berthold was mainly characterized as a very pious, kind and humble person who mastered his duties with much talent.

Biography of St. Berthold of Garsten:
Berthold of Garsten was a benedictine monk who was appointed prior at Göttweig Abbey in 1107. Ottokar II of Styria entrusted him with the development of Garsten abbey, of which Berthold himself became abbot in 1111. Berthold was mainly characterized as very pious, kind and humble person who mastered his duties with much talent. According to the legend, when there was not enough fish on feast-days, Berthold would redouble them. He died in 1142 in Enns (Austria).
