When did St. Clement Maria Hofbauer live: 1751- 1830
Biography:
Clement Maria Hofbauer was born in 1751 in the Czech Republic as the ninth child of a butcher. He became a baker but soon decided to live a life as a hermit in Austria. Due to a law forbidding hermitages, he moved to Vienna where he studied at the university. Later on, he moved to Rome where he entered the Redemptorist Order ans was ordained in 1785. Hofbauer has a profound influence on the religious life of central Europe and the evangelisation of Poland. He died in 1820. Beatified in 1888 by Pope Leo XIII, he was canonised in 1909 by Pope Pius X.
