BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Donatus of Arezzo was a Christian bishop who lived in the 4th century. There are few historically verified details about his life, but he is regarded as one of the most significant saints of Tuscany. According to legend, he was raised in a Christian family and developed deep devotion from an early age. He became the Bishop of Arezzo and worked fervently to spread Christianity. One story tells that he miraculously neutralized a poisoned chalice through prayer, saving a fellow believer from certain death. He is also credited with destroying a pagan idol. During the Christian persecutions, Saint Donatus was eventually arrested and suffered martyrdom.

St. Donatus is the patron saint of the city of Arezzo, winemakers, pharmacists, and travelers.

The wooden figure of Saint Donatus of Arezzo depicts him as a bishop with a mitre on his head. In his right hand, he holds a chalice with, while his left hand grasps an elaborately decorated bishop's crozier. His garments are richly adorned with golden details, and a red and gold-lined cloak drapes over his shoulders.
