St. Ewald came from Northumbria. He had a brother with the same name, Ewald. He was a companion of St. Willibrord of Echternach and he went to school in Ireland. After he became a priest of the Benedictine Order, he joined Willibrord with his brother in Frisia, the Netherlands. He was martyred with his brother during a mission in 692.
