Biography of Germanus of Granfelden:
Germanus was born in 612 in Trier to a family of senators in Trier. He was raised by a bishop and became a monk in Remiremont monastery at the age of 17. Abbot Waldebert of Luxeuil charged him with the monastery of Moutier-Grandval, where Germanus served for about 35 years. As Germanus and his companion Randoald asked to meet Duke Etich, who planned to subdue the area around Delémont, they were both killed on their way back.
