St. Helena was an empress and mother of Constantine the Great. In 270, she married the Roman general Constantinus I Clorus and their son Constantine was born soon after. When husband Constantinus was made Ceaser, he left his wife and married Maximian's stepdaughter. Her son Constantine became emperor in 312 and Helena became empress. She converted to christianity and put great effort in building churches in Rome and the Holy Land. She is said to have performed many acts of charity as well, before dying in Nicomedia.
