Saint John of Cologne with Palm Figurine Models

Imagery and Representation: shown as a priest with a book, cross around his neck, and a palm leaf as a symbol of his martyrdom. Hand carved in Maple wood and hand painted by professional artists. Made in Italy. John was born in Cologne and studied at the University of Cologne, one of the best institutions in Europe in the sixteenth century. Later, he entered the Dominican Order and was ordained. He then moved to the village of Hoornaar (Netherlands), where he served as a priest for the next twenty years. John was taken captive by the Calvinists and a group called Watergeuzen, who tried to make him deny his faith. On the night of 9 July, John was hanged together with eighteen other Christians after cruel tortures.

Biography of Saint John of Cologne:
John was born in Cologne and studied at the University of Cologne, one of the best institutions in Europe in the sixteenth century. Later, he entered the Dominican Order and was ordained. He then moved to the village of Hoornaar (Netherlands), where he served as a priest for the next twenty years. John was taken captive by the Calvinists and a group called Watergeuzen, who tired to make him deny his faith. On the night of 9 July, John was hanged together with eighteen other Christians after cruel tortures.
