Biography of St. John of God:
John left from home at the age of 8 to follow a priest who had talked to him about Spain. He was then adopted by a shepherd and worked with him until the latter wanted him to marry his daughter, who he loved as a sister. John fled and fought in the Spanish-French-War and then against the Muslims in Vienna. After these wars, he moved to Gibraltar and started selling religious souvenirs. It is here that he heard the preaching of John of Avila, which changed him completely. He started caring for the poor and sick in a hospital. He died in 1550 because of his weak body due to his reckless efforts of helping people.
