Patron Saint of rueful prostitutes, penitents and hairdressers
Imagery and Representation: shown with long hair and a vase of unguent.
Mary Magdalen of Magdale is known from several episodes in the Gospels. Mary was a witness of Jesus' crucifixion and his deposition of the cross. She was one of three women who went to the sepulchre on Sunday morning to tallow the body of Christ. Once she had seen the sepulchre empty, she ran and told the apostles. St Mary Magdalen is also known as the prostitute who went to the house of Simon to ask Jesus for forgiveness. She cried at Jesus' feet, wiped his feet clean with her hair and anointed them with expensive perfume.
