Biography of St. Odilo of Cluny:
Odilo was born in 962 in a noble family in Auvergne (France). In 990, he entered the Benedictine monastery of Cluny and was elected abbot in 994. His concern for the poor and his austerity made him famous and beloved all over Europe. According to sources, he even sold church properties to feed the hungry during a famine. Furthermore, he was an advisor of popes and kings. Odilo died in 1049 during travels to visit his monasteries.
