Represented as Princess of Kiev with book, church, crown and a cross in her right hand.
St Olga married Prince Igor I of Kiev in 903. She was known for being extremely cruel and barbarous. After her husband was murdered, she ruled over Kievan Rus from 945 until 963 until her son could take over.
She was baptised in Constantinople in 957 at an old age and her personality changed. On her demand, missionaries were sent to Kiev but were not very successful. Not even her son was converted, but her grandson Vladimir I made Christianity the lasting state religion. She was canonised in 1146 for her efforts to spread the Christian religion in her country.
