Biography:
Scholastica was born in Italy as sister of Benedict of Nursia. Following the example of her brother, she consecrated her life to God already in young years. She entered a monastery in Plombariola, five miles away from the monastery of St. Benedict. The siblings usually met once a year and discussed spiritual matters. During one visits, Scholastica asked Benedict to stay until the next day but her brother refused. Through prayer, a furious thunderstorm arose and Benedict could not return to his monastery. This was the list time the two siblings met each other. Scholastica died three days later in 543.
