When did St. Sigismund of Burgundy live: in the sixth century
Biography:
St. Sigismund was born as the son of Gundobad, King of Burgundy, whom he succeeded after his death. Although his family was Arian, he was baptised by bishop Avitus of Vienne. One year before becoming king of Burgundy, he founded a monastery dedicated to Saint Maurice. In 517, Sigismund ordered the strangulation of his own son, because the latter had insulted Sigismund's new wife. Tormented by remorse, he retreated to a monastery. Sigismund was captured during the invasion of the Franks and put to death in Orleans.
