St. Silvia was born in Rome around 520 a.D. into a humble family. She had two saint sisters and in 538 a.D. she married the senator Gordiano who was related to a noble roman family. St. Silvia had two sons, the firstborn Gregory became pope in 590 a.D.. When she was a widow she retired and she dedicated her life to the poor and the sick and passed her time praying and meditating.
