Patron Saint of Hungary

Stephen the Great was born in 977 as the son of the Magyar chieftain Geza and married the daughter of Duke Henry II. He became Grand Prince of Hungary in 997 and had great influence in the spreading of the christian religion. He actively helped building churches and donated his patronage to church leaders. In 1000, he was crowned king of Hungary by Pope Sylvester II. Nowadays, he is patron saint of Hungary and his royal insignia represent beloved symbols of the Hungarian nation.
