Born in 1226, Thomas was the son of a Count of Aquino. When he was 5 he was placed in a Benedictine monastery. After he was able to make his own decisions, he went into the Order of St. Dominic and moved to Cologne to study and teach. He was a friend of French King St. Louis. He was one of the most influent theologians and was declared Doctor of the church in 1323.
